PREVIEW (PDF)
Our presentation for Future Fair NY 2022 comprises four artists: Chris Fennell, Alicia Gibson, Levani (Levan Mindiashvili), and Phoenix Lindsey-Hall.
Each of the artists works with an impulsive response to their environments. Whether it's immediate space around them or global political events – the immediacy of reaction and stream of consciousness is how these four artists work.
Chris Fennell's painstakingly elaborate works are created by the meticulous layering of cut-out paper circles and acrylic paint. Reacting to continuous sirens during the first months of the quarantine, Fennel's works resemble piercing sound waves.
Alicia Gibson's gestural paintings combine texts and imagery that at once seem disconnected yet perfectly convey the frantic of our everyday.
Levani's neons "In search of the Miraculous" and "I should have kissed you longer" seem to become lingering states of these past two years.
Phoneix Lindsey-Hall's new series "Scream Inside Your Heart" is a ceramic series made in response to the recent and tragic death of those lost to police violence and brutality. In this series, Lindsey-Hall literally shoots wet clay with bullets to capture the negative space of the explosion that is made. The organic forms created with the "clay body" are a metaphor for the "human body" in the act of violence. The results are abstracted forms, finished with gun-metal metallic grey glaze.
