Fairy Tales for the Present Future is a show that reminds us how important the act of looking at things with fresh eyes and new perspectives is. In these times, it is crucial to create stories that will help us understand the absurdities of life and learn to confront fears and make them into magical places. Uta Bekaia, Khatia Esartia and Gerben Mulder use bright rich colors to create fantastical worlds of their own imagination. Whether in embroidery, watercolor or oil paint, the images these three artists depict are based in magical tropes and reference humorous allegories. The artists use figuration within narratives, often placing themselves into the surreal landscapes as surrogates or as references to personal allusions.
